This Privacy Policy describes how Sumerly (“us”, “we”, or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Sumerly mobile application (the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address and name (provided during registration or via third-party sign-in)
• Password (for email/password authentication only — stored and managed by our authentication provider, not directly by us)

Authentication via Third Parties

You may sign in using third-party authentication providers:

• Google Sign-In: We receive your email address and display name from Google.
• Apple Sign-In: We receive your email address and name (provided on first sign-in only).

These providers may collect additional information in accordance with their own privacy policies.

User-Generated Content

When you use the Service, we collect content you provide, including:

• PDFs and text uploaded for study material generation
• Quest titles and study materials
• Quiz answers, scores, and study session results
• Flashcard review ratings and spaced repetition scheduling data

Automatically Collected Information

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Service:

• Device token for push notification delivery
• App usage events through our analytics provider to understand how the Service is used
• Ad interaction data collected by our advertising provider when ads are displayed
• Ad revenue data for measuring advertising performance

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:

• Theme and language preferences
• Notification preference settings
• Onboarding completion status
• Temporary session state

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Generate AI-powered study materials from your uploaded content
• Process subscriptions and in-app purchases
• Send push notifications, such as due card reminders and streak reminders (opt-in only)
• Serve advertisements to users on the free tier
• Analyze app usage patterns to improve the Service
• Communicate with you about your account, transactions, and service updates

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may share your information with third-party service providers solely as necessary to operate and provide the Service. These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only for the purposes of providing their services to us.

Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with the following categories of third-party services:

• Authentication: To manage user accounts and sign-in (Supabase Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy, Apple Privacy Policy)
• Cloud Storage: To store uploaded files such as PDFs (Supabase Privacy Policy)
• Analytics: To understand app usage and improve the Service (Mixpanel Privacy Policy, Firebase Privacy Policy)
• Push Notifications: To deliver reminders and updates (Firebase Privacy Policy)
• Advertising: To serve ads to free-tier users (Google AdMob Privacy Policy)
• Subscription Management: To process and manage in-app purchases (RevenueCat Privacy Policy)
• AI Content Generation: To generate study materials from your uploaded content (processed by our backend service using AI providers)

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third-party services.

Advertising

Users on the free tier of the Service are shown advertisements served by a third-party advertising provider. This provider may collect device identifiers, usage data, and other information in accordance with its own privacy policy to deliver and measure ads.

Premium subscribers do not see advertisements.

You may opt out of personalized advertising through your device’s privacy settings (e.g., “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS or “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android).

Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service to you.

You may delete your account at any time through the Settings section of the app (Settings → Delete Account). Upon account deletion, your data will be removed from our backend servers.

We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, such as fraud prevention or enforcement of our terms.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information. Authentication credentials are managed securely through our authentication provider’s SDK and are not stored directly by our application.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data
• Delete your account and all associated data (via Settings → Delete Account)
• Opt out of push notifications through the app’s notification settings or your device settings
• Opt out of personalized advertising through your device’s privacy settings
• Request information about how your data is used by contacting us

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy within the Service and updating the “Last updated” date.

Your continued use of the Service after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
